Little creatures in my garden

October 3rd, 2007

Today I did some pruning and found these little creatures, I don’t mind with the spider but the snail is a pest. I normally pick up the snails and put them in the garden waste, but this time suddenly I felt sorry for it and left it where it was …

Roses Paintings

September 29th, 2007

I’m in the mood for painting roses. Last week I painted a pink rose, the first one darker than it supposed to be, but I like it so instead of fixing its colour, I painted another one. Both of them are nice I think but the photos I took today a bit blur, I may take another shot tomorrow.

One of my fav roses is Rosa Orange Lemon. Today I have completed painting it using photo reference from the garden.

Flowers In The End Of Summer

September 16th, 2007

It’s been over a month since my last post. We don’t do much of gardening, only watering, deadheading old flowers and a little bit of weeding. Once a week I feed tomatoes and chillies. Now and then we pick their fruits. Since they are in fruit I didn’t have to buy them anymore.

I’m pleased to see that everything has been growing very well. Two passiflora are still in flowers covering the willow umbrella and the trellis behind the sit. The summer flowering clematis have finished flowering, but the late flowering clematis just started in flowers. The roses are healthy, they will be in flowers till November. The Oriental Lily Stargazer - that I planted from bulb in the spring - has rewarded us with its flowers since the end of August, I’m amazed to see how big and beautiful they are.

Here is the pic of Saskia next to the Lilies Stargazer:-)

While enjoying the garden I did some painting. Here are still life painting; Yellow Rose and Passiflora Lavender Lady.

Our first pick of tomatoes

July 31st, 2007

Our 3 tomatoes plants have been growing very well with lots of fruits. One of the Cherry tomatoes

was ripe, so I picked it off. I, Akang and Saskia had a bite each, it’s very tasty. It feel nice too being able to pick tomatoe from your own plant and put straight in your mouth not from the supermarket. That what we call really fresh :-)

Visitors in our garden

July 15th, 2007

Akang doesn’t only help watering the plants but also likes to go around with the camera. This week as he came back from work he took some lovely pictures of little creatures who was playing in our garden; a cricket wandering around on the rosa ruby wedding leaf and a bee hanging on verbena bonariensis flower.

Say your love with flowers

July 11th, 2007

Last Sunday we had day out to Hampton Court Palace Flower Show in London. It only took just over an hour from our place. The weather was lovely and the show was really beautiful.

Knowing that our garden don’t have any space for more flowers, everytime we saw something that catching our eyes, we tried to resist the temptation not to buy them, but it only lasted for about an hour.

It started by filling our pull along box with the little ones - chillies and herbs - but in the end of the day our box was full, and both of Akang’s hands carried a couple David Austin’s roses, he also ordered Rosa Munstead Wood, a new variety of David Austin rose which not available there but will be delivered in November.

As we walked toward the exit, I stopped and bought a small plant of Clematis Florida Sieboldiana - the first flower that cought my eyes when we just got in - then taking picture of their display. Akang knew I was admiring it and he decided to buy one from the display, he reserved one and then we waited for half an hour - until the show was end - before he went back to get it.

Here he comes with it to show how much he love me :-)

Because I love you, he said. Florida Siebodiana

And this is Sas with our shopping while waiting for her dad coming back.

Sas and our shopping in Hampton Court Palace Flower Show

We spent all day in the flower show and she was ever so good - not moaning and saying boring as she used to when we took her to the garden/flower shows. She picked Passiflora Lavender Lady, not bad choice actually this most unusual passiflora in this country is beautiful. It’s already in buds, maybe in a few days one of them will open.

Since Akang bought the big clematis Florida Sielboldiana, before we left the show I changed the one I had bought to Clematis Firework. We struggled to put our flowers and plants into the car, but we managed and there was no damage to them.

1st flower of Rosa Claude Monet

July 11th, 2007

I was unhappy with our rosa claude monet, pessimistic it would grow well since this young plant looked very poor. I moved it to the front garden and keep an eye an it. Now the new leaves look healthier and the only bud there surprisingly has opened up beautifully.1st flower of Rosa Claude Monet

Planting rhizomes from Indonesia

July 4th, 2007

Last Sunday, Gina came back from Indonesia. She brought me some rhizomes of Kaempferia galanga. we call it Kencur. I use Kencur rhizome mainly for flavouring Indonesian salad sauce (karedok or lotek), but I never found one in the supermarket here, so I’m very please now I’ve got some.

Yesterday I planted some of kencur rhizomes in a pot, hope they’ll grow. I also planted other rhizomes she brought me; galangal, turmeric and ginger.  I used them alot in my cooking and they are available here especially ginger; you can get it in every supermarket.

All I need for the kitchen garden now, are; fragrant screwpine (pandan) and laurellike (salam) plants.
